First published as a serial in The Captain, October 1908 - March 1909, with the title The New Fold, Psmith In The City is a comic novel based on a miserable experience: the two years Wodehouse spent working for the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank. Psmith was first introduced in the school novel Mike [1909] and, as in Psmith, Journalist, Mike is here retained as the titular character's foil.
