[FRAENKEL, Michael and LOWENFELS, Walter] ANONYMOUS

Anonymous

Paris: Carrefour Editions, N.d. [1930]

12mo, pp. 29. Original yellow stiff paper wrappers. Wrappers a little rubbed and marked, but a well preserved copy.

First edition of Fraenkel's first book, and the first publication of the Carrefour Press.

The manifesto for the Carrefour Press, written by the imprint's founders. Anonymity was the watchword, the submergence of the artist's ego in order to merge his 'creative consciousness into the total creative consciousness of the world'. In Paris, Henry Miller would invite Fraenkel to a restaurant as often as possible. While Fraenkel talked (and he could really talk), Miller ate. Guess who paid.

A well preserved copy of a fragile, scarce item.
