Published by Victor Gollancz for the Left Book Club, and distributed by them to their subscribers. Gollancz was uncomfortable with Orwell's political analysis in the second half of the book and, having failed to persuade Orwell to allow him to publish the first half on its own, wrote an introduction to the book in order to say so.
