London: Scorpion Press, 1959
8vo, pp. 38. Original cream still paper wrappers, lettered in red and black to front panel. Very slight wear to (outsize) wrappers edges, a little age-toning, and a small faint stain to the upper edge of the half-title. A better than very good copy.
First edition. No. 211 of 500 copies, of which the first fifty were signed by the author.
A long letter from Miller to the expatriate writer Alfred Perlès, Miller's flatmate and close friend during his time in Paris in the 1930s. Their published correspondence began with Miller's Aller Retour New York, published by the Paris-based Obelisk Press in 1936. This volume is one of a pair; Perlès' reply, Reunion In Big Sur, was published by Scorpion Press the same year. (The title page to this volume is confusing: under the title it reads 'A letter to Alfred Perlès, from Aller Retour New York'. This means 'Aletter to Alfred Perlès, the man to whom Aller Retour New York was addressed', and not that the letter published here is taken from the earlier book.)
A very well preserved copy.
