London: Faber, 1937
8vo, pp. 12. Original red stiff paper wrappers with foldover flaps. Partly unopened. Wrappers a little rubbed and faded, but a well preserved copy.
First edition. English literary scholar Nevill Coghill's copy, with his pencilled ownership signature to front wrapper. Auden was tutored by Coghill during his time at Oxford, and co-edited the Festschrift To Nevill Coghill From Friends in 1966.
Auden donated all royalties from this poem to the care of wounded antifascist fighters in the Spanish Civil War.
An excellent association.
