The Eaten Heart

Paris: Hours Press, 1929

Large 8vo, pp. 17. Original green marbled boards, black cloth spine. Partly unopened. Some wear to edges, a few scuffs and scratches to boards, gold titling on front panel very faded (as on all copies, because of a production fault). Some foxing to paper edges and front endpapers. A very good copy of a fragile production.

First edition. No. 146 of 200 copies, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.

Hand set by the proprietor of the Hours Press, Nancy Cunard, whose fourth publication this was (which explains its shaky production values). The book was almost never published at all: Cunard, her lover Henry Crowder and the printed sheets were all involved in a car accident on the way to the bindery at Evreux, for which Crowder was fined 1,000 francs.
