WORKING EARLY DRAFT MANUSCRIPT AND TYPESCRIPT OF DO BUTLERS BURGLE BANKS? [Herbert Jenkins, 1968]. MANY PAGES DATED THROUGH THE YEAR 1967, THE WHOLE HEAVILY AMENDED AND REVISED.

An early draft, and all the more interesting for it. The pages of manuscript and typescript are divided into six separate sections on a seemingly haphazard basis, regardless either of content or date. There are multiple versions of a number of scenes from the book, demonstrating how meticulous was Wodehouse's attention to structure, character and plot -- even when well into his eighties. Much of the last fifty pages of this draft can be seen, after much subsequent redrafting, in the published version of the text.
