Marcel Willard [1889-1956] served in both wars, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre for his bravery in each. A lawyer and writer, he also served in the French Senate after the Second World War as a Communist. Au Sans Pareil, publisher of this slim volume of verse, was founded in 1919 by Willard's wife, Germaine Granjux. The presence of Dufy's illustrations combined with the very small print run has made this the scarcest of Au Sans Pareil titles.
