Travelling People

London: Panther, 1967

8vo, pp. 285. Original illustrated stiff paper wrappers. Some wear to spine edges, light bumping to corners.

First paperback edition of Johnson's first book, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO JUNE TILLINGHAST: 'for June, with love, remembering what this old book meant to us all, Bryan 4/8/67'. Tony Tillinghast was Johnson's close friend from university, and sounding board for his work. He died of cancer in 1965, at the age of twenty-nine.

Travelling People was first published in 1963, by Constable, and is dedicated to Tony and his wife June. By the time this paperback edition appeared Tony had died, making this inscription to his widow an extremely poignant one.

A unique copy.
