A Book of Bits, or A Bit of a Book

London: Dennis Dobson, 1965

8vo, pp. 89. Original dark blue boards, lettered in gilt to spine. Illustrated dustwrapper. A little spotting to top edge, otherwise a near fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper with a little general darkening.

First edition, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR: 'To Philip le Bars star of stage screen and labour Xchange - from Spike 1639.'

The recipient was the brother of Tessa Le Bars who, in the year of this book's publication, had just begun work as a secretary in the office of Associated London Scripts. The agency was run by Beryl Vertue, and represented Eric Sykes, Galton and Simpson, Frankie Howerd and Spike Milligan, among many others on the British Comedy scene. (She later rose through the ranks at the agency to become the representative of many of the agency's big names.)

A very well preserved copy.
