The Tale Of A Coat

Manchester: Burberry's, N.d. [?1937]

12mo, pp. 26. Original oversized stiff paper wrappers, title label to front panel. A little bruising to wrappers, staples rusted, but a near fine copy.

First edition. Burberry's directors' compliments slip laid in.
Quaint Burberry's promotional publication, a short story about the adventures which befall one of their coats.
Much more interesting than the book is its author Shaw Desmond: novelist, dramatist, and absolute howling loon. Desmond spent his life researching psychic phenomena and black magic, and published several books on both subjects. He wrote something called Tales Of The Little Sister Of St. Francis, an account of his experiences among leprechauns. And, while President of an Immortalist outfit called The Survival League, he declared publicly that it was impossible for anything to stop him surviving.
He died in 1960.
(No publication date appears on this item: our guess is taken from a copy we have located which is inscribed and dated by the author).
