First edition. DELUXE ISSUE, NO. 27 OF 1030 COPIES SIGNED BY ARTHUR RACKHAM. Introduction by Arthur Quiller-Couch.
Rackham was prevailed upon by Heinemann to publish this 'greatest hits' collection of past work, after sales of more highbrow Rackham-illustrated titles like The Rheingold (1910) and Siegfried (1911) had dipped alarmingly from the great success of Alice in Wonderland (1907). The artwork is here divided into six sections -- Of The Little People; Classic; Some Fairy Tales; Some Children; Grotesque & Fantastic; and Various.
The printed Rackham bookplate to the front pastedown does not appear in later printings of the book.
