Slightly cocked, small contemporary (1897) ownership inscription to front free endpaper, and even smaller bookseller's label to front pastedown. Some foxing to preliminaries, and very light bumping to spine ends, but a near fine copy in a tight binding, with the gilt and colours of the front panel and spine illustrations still extremely bright.

First edition, with the date 1898 appearing on the title page.

Despite the given publication date, the book was actually issued on 15 June 1897, and the catalogue bound in to the rear of the book advertises title which carry an 1897 publication date.

An extremely pleasing copy.
