[?pseud.] COMBOURG, Marie

Journal Intime D'Une Provenciale

London-Calcutta-Melbourne [Paris]: Philéas Fogg [Eric Losfeld], N.d. [c. 1956]

8vo, unpaginated [pp. 90]. Illustrated wrappers. French text. Small blemish to rear wrapper, otherwise a fine unopened copy.

First edition. Stated limitation of 500 copies (although Dutel (ref. 1813) thinks there were probably 1000). GERSHON LEGMAN'S COPY, WITH HIS PENCILLED ANNOTATION TO INSIDE REAR WRAPPER. SMALL BOOK LABEL OF OLYMPIA PRESS BIBLIOGRAPHER PATRICK KEARNEY TO INSIDE FRONT WRAPPER.

Tanguy's drawings, made in 1928, were originally to have been used to illustrate Benjamin Péret's Les Couilles Enragées which, with Bataille's Histoire De L'Oeil and Aragon's Le Con D'Irène, was to have formed a trilogy published by René Bonnel. But when printer Gaston Coquette's premises were raided by police the project had to be abandoned, only to be resumed by Eric Losfeld nearly thirty years later.
