London: Polybooks, 1946
Small 8vo, pp. 64. Original grey boards, lettered in red to front panel. Illustrated dust jacket. Bookplate to front pastedown, endpapers a little browned and some mottling to leading edge, but a very good copy in a very good dust jacket, some marking to (white) rear panel and an unobtrusive closed tear to top of front fold.
First collected edition fo four crime short stories.
Four short stories by the husband and wife team of eminent political activists and social historians, whose crime-writing sideline was described by Dame Margaret Cole herself as 'competent but not more'. It must have been fun, then: the Coles published some thirty crime novels together, as well as this scarce collection of short stories.
The copy of renowned bibliophile and bibliographer of John Steinbeck Adrian Homer Goldstone, with his bookplate.
